Upcycling with Modular Design

Ghabrial's modular tailoring system, Transystem 001, was inspired by the current culture of obsolescence and fast fashion.

Today we tend to dispose of our garments before the end of their lifecycle.

With this in mind, Ghabrial took a different approach.  Expecting them to be prematurely discarded, Ghabrial designed garments that could be deconstructed into modular components.

Each used modular component can be upcycled – that is, readily used in combination with newly purchased components.   Upcycling,  unlike recycling which requires old items to be broken down and reconstituted before reuse,  enables immediate reuse of each component.

The result is less wastage, less material ending up in landfills, less energy consumed and less resources used.  Garment maintenance, especially laundering which itself is potentially wasteful and harmful to the environment, is minimized by being limited to those garment components requiring attention, thus saving water, energy and detergents.
